Indications

Monotherapy for partial-onset seizures in adults and adolescents
Adjunctive therapy for various types of seizures in adults, adolescents, children, and infants

Description

Mechanism of action is unknown, but Levetira inhibits burst firing without affecting normal neuronal excitability.

Administration

Must be taken orally, swallowed with sufficient liquid, and can be taken with or without food. Daily dose is administered in two equally divided doses.

Interaction

No influence on existing antiepileptic medicinal products
Inhibition of renal clearance by probenecid
Decrease in methotrexate clearance when administered concomitantly
Reports of decreased efficacy when administered with osmotic laxative
No alteration in absorption by food, but reduced rate of absorption
No available data on interaction with alcohol

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to active substance or other pyrrolidone derivatives or to any of the excipients
