Description
- The combination of two antacids (Calcium carbonate and Sodium bicarbonate) and an alginate (Sodium alginate) for treating gastric reflux, heartburn, indigestion, flatulence, and related discomfort.
Indications
- Gastric reflux
- Heartburn
- Indigestion
- Flatulence associated with gastric reflux
- Heartburn of pregnancy
- Epigastric and retrosternal distress
Pharmacology
- Neutralizing excess stomach acid
- Forming a protective barrier over the stomach contents
- Rapid reaction with gastric acid
- Formation of Alginic Acid gel
- Reducing esophageal acid exposure
- Protection from Acid, Pepsin and Bile
- Secondary action of entrapping bile and pepsin
DosageAdministration
- Adults and children over 12 years: 10-20 mL after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day
- Children 6 to 12 years: 5-10 mL after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day
- Children under 6 years: Not recommended
- Elderly: No dose modifications necessary
- Chewable Tablet dosage for adults and children over 12 years: Two to four tablets after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day
Interaction
- Consider a time interval of 2 hours between Gastrocon-DA intake and the administration of other medicinal products, especially Tetracyclines, Digoxine, Fluoroquinolone, Iron salt, Ketoconazole, Neuroleptics, Thyroid Hormones, Penicillamine, beta-blockers, Glucocorticoid, Chloroquine, Biphosphonates, and Estramustine

- Known or suspected hypersensitivity to the active ingredients or to any of the excipients

PregnancyLactation
- No malformative nor feto/neonatal toxicity observed in clinical studies
- No effects shown in breastfed newborns/infants
- Alginate has no negative effect on parental or offspring fertility or reproduction
PrecautionsWarnings
- Sodium content of 254.5 mg (11.06 mmol) per 20 ml dose
- Calcium content of 260 mg (6.5 mmol) per 20 ml dose
- Not recommended for children under 12 years of age except on medical advice
- High in sodium
- Care needed when treating patients with hypercalcaemia, nephrocalcinosis, and recurrent calcium containing renal calculi
- Not recommended for patients with phenylketonuria
- Not to be used in patients with impaired renal function/insufficiency and with hypophosphatemia
- May cause allergic reactions
