Indications
- Reduction of symptoms of intermittent claudication
- Increased walking distance
Pharmacology
- Cilostazol being a quinolinone derivative
- Inhibition of cellular phosphodiesterase III
- Suppression of cAMP degradation
- Increase in cAMP in platelets and blood vessels
- Inhibition of platelet aggregation
- Vasodilation
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended dosage of 100 mg bid
- Taken at least half an hour before or two hours after breakfast and dinner
- Consideration of 50 mg bid during coadministration of specific drugs
- Safety and effectiveness not established in pediatric patients
Interactions
- Omeprazole and Erythromycin increasing systemic exposure
- Higher concentrations among patients concurrently treated with Diltiazem
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with congestive heart failure
- Contraindicated in patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to any components
Side Effects
- Common side effects - headache, diarrhoea, vomiting, leg cramps, rash
- Less frequent side effects - anorexia, edema
Pregnancy & Lactation
- No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women
- Transfer of Cilostazol into milk reported in experimental animals
- Potential risk to nursing infants
Precautions & Warnings
- Use with caution in patients with any degree of heart failure
- No information on efficacy or safety of concurrent use with Clopidogrel
