Indications
- Superficial infections caused by gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
- Burns treatment
- Wound and ulceration healing
- Otitis externa treatment
- Postoperative infections
- Neuro-dermatitis treatment
- Eczema treatment
- Adjunct to systemic steroid therapy for pyoderma
Pharmacology
- Betamethasone as active topical corticosteroid
- Neomycin Sulfate as broad-spectrum bactericidal amino-glycoside
- Effective against gram-positive and gram-negative pathogens
- Effective penetration and uniform distribution capacity
- Effective for treatment of wet ulceration of the skin
Dosage & Administration
- Applied as a thin layer 3 to 4 times daily in adults
- Withdrawal of treatment by decreasing application frequency in chronic conditions
- Not for use on children under 1 year of age
- Course of treatment for a child should not normally last more than 5 days
Interaction
- No significant drug interactions reported
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any of its components
- Not for otitis externa with perforated eardrum
- Not for skin lesions caused by viruses and fungi
Side Effects
- Well tolerated in general
- Prolonged and high doses may cause Cushing's syndrome
- May cause acne
- May cause thinning and dilatation of blood vessels, particularly with occlusive dressings
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not to be used extensively in pregnancy
Precautions & Warnings
- Avoid long-term continuous topical therapy
- Accurate dose should be used in infected areas only
