Description
- This product is indicated for the treatment of nosocomial pneumonia, community-acquired pneumonia, complicated skin and skin structure infections, uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections, and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium infections.

Pharmacology
- Linezolid is a synthetic antibacterial agent
- In vitro activity against Gram-positive aerobes and some anaerobes
- Selectively inhibits bacterial protein synthesis
- Bacteriostatic against enterococci and staphylococci
- Bactericidal for the majority of streptococci strains
Dosage & Administration
- Can be taken orally with or without food
- Intravenous infusion over 30 to 120 minutes
- Dosage varies based on infection and age group
- No dose adjustment needed when switching from IV to oral administration
- Hepatic impairment: no dose adjustment recommended for mild-to-moderate impairment
Interaction
- Reversible, nonselective inhibitor of monoamine oxidase
- Potential for interaction with adrenergic and serotonergic agents
- Patients should avoid large quantities of foods with high tyramine content while taking this medication
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Linezolid or other product components
- Contraindicated with monoamine oxidase inhibitors or within two weeks of taking such medication
- Not for patients with uncontrolled hypertension, pheochromocytoma, thyrotoxicosis, or taking certain sympathomimetic or serotonergic agents
Side Effects
- Most common: diarrhea, headache, nausea
- Other adverse events include oral and vaginal moniliasis, hypertension, dyspepsia, localized abdominal pain, pruritus, and tongue discoloration
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Limited data on use in pregnancy
- Present in breast milk
- Consider benefits of breastfeeding against potential risk to the child
Precautions & Warnings
- Monitor complete blood counts in patients receiving Linezolid
- Prompt ophthalmic evaluation if symptoms of visual impairment occur
- Not approved for catheter-related infections
- C. difficile-associated diarrhea may occur
- Careful use in patients with certain medical conditions or on specific medications
- Regular monitoring for potential increases in blood pressure
- Immediate medical evaluation if certain symptoms occur
- Potential need for dose adjustments if hypoglycemia occurs
Overdose Effects
- No cases reported
- Symptomatic and supportive care advised, along with maintenance of glomerular filtration

Reconstitution
- For oral suspension: add boiled and cooled water to the dry mixture in the bottle
- Shake well before use
- Use within 21 days after constitution
- For intravenous administration, supplied in ready-to-use infusion bottles
- Avoid introduction of additives into the solution
