Medicine Details

Prophylaxis of classic migraine (with aura)
Prophylaxis of common migraine (without aura)
Symptomatic treatment of vestibular vertigo
Symptomatic treatment of motion sickness
Treatment of Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD)
Treatment of refractory epilepsy resistant to conventional antiepileptic therapy

Starting dose of 10 mg at night for patients less than 65 years
Starting dose of 5 mg daily for patients older than 65 years
Maintenance treatment with a decreased dose of 5 days treatment at the same daily dose with two successive medicine free days every week
Peripheral Vascular disease dosage: 10 mg twice daily, up to 30 mg per day if required
Vertigo & motion sickness dosage: 10-20 mg daily for adults, 5 mg daily for children (> 40 kg)
Epileptic seizure dosage: 15-20 mg daily in adults, 5-10 mg daily in children as add-on therapy

Possible interaction with oral contraceptives leading to galactorrhoea
Hepatic enzyme inducers such as Carbamazepine and Phenytoin may increase the metabolism of Fizi

Hypersensitivity to Flunarizine
Contra-indicated in patients with a history of depressive illness
Contra-indicated in patients with pre-existing symptoms of Parkinson's disease or other extrapyramidal disorders

Drowsiness and/or fatigue
Weight gain and/or increased appetite
Possible adverse experiences: depression, extrapyramidal symptoms, heartburn, nausea, gastralgia, insomnia, anxiety, galactorrhoea, dry mouth, muscle ache, skin rash

May lead to drowsiness, aggravated by alcohol or other central nervous system depressants
Caution against driving motor vehicles or performing hazardous tasks
Not suited for aborting a migraine attack
Treatment may give rise to extrapyramidal and depressive symptoms, reveal Parkinsonism especially in predisposed patients such as the elderly
