Pharmacology
Facilitates long-chain fatty acid entry into cellular mitochondria, delivers substrate for oxidation and subsequent energy production
Dosage & Administration
- Adults: 330 mg two or three times daily
- Infants and children: 50 to 100 mg/kg/day in divided doses, with a maximum of 3 g/day
- Adults: Recommended dosage of Levocarnitine 100 ml solution is 10 to 30 ml/day
- Infants and children: Recommended dosage of Levocarnitine 100 ml solution is 50 to 100 mg/kg/day
Side Effects
- Transient nausea and vomiting
- Abdominal cramps
- Diarrhoea
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Consideration for discontinuation of nursing or of levocarnitine treatment
Precautions & Warnings
- Gastrointestinal reactions from rapid consumption
- Safety and efficacy not evaluated in patients with renal insufficiency
- Chronic administration of high doses in severely compromised renal function may result in accumulation of potentially toxic metabolites

No reports of toxicity from Levocar overdosage
