Indications
- Treatment of patients with hypoperfusion states
- Inotropic support when cardiac output is insufficient
- Inotropic support for patients with increased ventricular filling pressures

Pharmacology
- Positive inotropic effect

Dosage
- Recommended dosage range of 2.5 to 40 mcg/kg/min

Overdose Effects
- Toxicity symptoms including anorexia, nausea, vomiting, tremor
- Positive inotropic and chronotropic effects leading to hypertension
- Treatment involves discontinuing administration, establishing airway, ensuring oxygenation and ventilation
- Severe ventricular tachyarrhythmias may be treated with propranolol or lidocaine
- Hypertension responds to reduction in dose or discontinuation of therapy
