Dobutamine 12.5 mg/ml (IV Injection)

Indications

• Treatment of patients with hypoperfusion states
• Inotropic support for patients with insufficient cardiac output
• Inotropic support for patients at risk of pulmonary congestion and edema

Pharmacology

• Stimulates β1-adrenergic receptors
• Increases myocardial contractility
• Increases stroke volume
• Increases cardiac output

Dosage

• Recommended dosage range: 2.5 to 40 mcg/kg/min
• Adjust according to patient's haemodynamic response
• Infusion rates based on different concentrations of Dobutamine Hydrochloride

Administration

• Continuous intravenous infusion
• No need for loading doses or bolus injections

Interaction

• Potency may be decreased with b-adrenergic receptor antagonists
• No overt indications of medicine interactions in clinical studies

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to Dobutamine Hydrochloride

Side Effects

• Increased heart rate and blood pressure
• Hypotension
• Reactions at sites of intravenous infusion
• Miscellaneous uncommon effects such as nausea, headache, and thrombocytopenia

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Not recommended during pregnancy unless benefits outweigh risks
• Caution advised when administered to a nursing woman

Precautions & Warnings

• Close monitoring of heart rate, rhythm, and arterial blood pressure
• Electrocardiographic monitoring advisable during initiation of therapy

Overdose Effects

• Toxicity symptoms include anorexia, nausea, vomiting, and hypertension
• Treatment involves discontinuing administration and establishing airway
