Indications

  • Recommended for correction of haemodynamic imbalance

Pharmacology

  • Stimulates alpha, beta, and dopamine receptors
  • Natural catecholamine

Dosage

  • Adult dosage range: 2 to 50 micrograms/kg/min
  • Gradual dosage increase for seriously ill patients

Pregnancy & Lactation

Precautions & Warnings

  • Not to be administered with uncorrected tachyarrhythmia or ventricular fibrillation
  • Metabolized by monoamine oxidase and catechol-O-methyltransferase
  • Close monitoring in patients with impaired renal and hepatic function
  • Careful correction of hypovolaemia prior to treatment

Overdose Effects

  • Excessive blood pressure elevation
  • Temporary discontinuation until stabilization
  • Consideration of short-acting alpha-adrenergic blocking agent

Therapeutic Class

Reconstitution

  • Must be diluted before administration
  • Stable for a minimum of 24 hours after dilution
  • Avoid adding to alkaline intravenous solutions
  • Avoid mixing with alteplase or amphotericin B solution
