Indications
- Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults
- Monotherapy in inadequately controlled patients
- Combination therapy with metformin
- Combination therapy with sulphonylurea and metformin
Pharmacology
- Inhibitor of DPP-4 enzyme
- Increases concentrations of active incretin hormones
- Stimulates insulin release from pancreatic beta cells
- Decreases glucagon secretion from pancreatic alpha cells
Dosage & Administration
- 5 mg once daily
- No dose adjustment required for patients with renal impairment
- Can be taken with or without a meal
Interaction
- Weak competitive and weak to moderate mechanism-based inhibitor of CYP3A4
- Low risk for clinically meaningful interactions with other medicinal products
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or excipients
Side Effects
- Hypoglycaemia
- Nasopharyngitis
- Cough
- Pancreatitis in combination with metformin and sulphonylurea

- Pregnancy category B
- Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed
- Unknown passage into breast milk
