Indications
- Bronchial asthma
- Bronchospasm
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Pulmonary disease with spastic bronchial component
Pharmacology
Doxophylline is a novel bronchodilator that selectively inhibits phosphodiesterase 4, relaxes bronchial smooth muscle, and has decreased affinities toward adenosine A1 and A2 receptors.
Dosage & Administration
- Elderly: 200 mg tablet two or three times daily
- Adults: 400 mg tablet two or three times daily
- Children:
- >12 years: 10 ml syrup or 200 mg tablet two or three times daily
- 6-12 years: 6-9 mg/kg body weight two times daily
- When required daily dose is 400 mg, Doxophylline SR tablet to be taken once daily
Interaction
Avoid administering with other xanthine preparations, limit consumption of caffeine, and exercise caution when administering with sympathomimetic drugs.
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to the drug or other xanthine derivatives
- Acute myocardial infarction, hypotension, lactation

Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy should be evaluated carefully on a case-by-case basis, and the drug is contraindicated during lactation.
Precautions & Warnings
Monitor drug levels in conditions affecting hepatic clearance, take caution in patients with various medical conditions, and there is no risk of addiction or dependence.
Overdose Effects
Severe cardiac arrhythmias and tonic-clonic seizure may occur. Discontinue treatment and institute symptomatic treatment of cardiovascular collapse.
