Indications

Pharmacology
Selective inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase, increases hepatic LDL receptors, inhibits hepatic VLDL synthesis
Dosage & Administration
- Usual dose range of 5-20 mg/day
- Maximum recommended dose of 20 mg/day
- 40 mg once daily for very high cholesterol and high risk of MI or stroke
- Starting dose of 20 mg once daily for homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia
- Initiation with 5 mg once daily for Asian patients
- Dosage adjustments for renal impairment
