Indications

Pharmacology
- Potent COX-2 inhibitor
- Decreased potential for gastrointestinal toxicity
- Decreased platelet aggregation effects
Dosage & Administration
- 30 mg once daily for osteoarthritis
- 60 mg once daily if insufficient relief from symptoms
- 90 mg once daily for rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis
- 120 mg once daily for acute gouty arthritis
- Maximum of 3 days for postoperative dental surgery pain
Interactions
- Increase in prothrombin time with oral anticoagulants
- Reduction in diuretics and antihypertensive drugs' effects with NSAIDs
- Concomitant use with low-dose acetylsalicylic acid for cardiovascular prophylaxis
- Potential increase in nephrotoxic effect with ciclosporin or tacrolimus
- Decreased lithium renal excretion with NSAIDs
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or excipients
- Active peptic ulceration or gastrointestinal bleeding
- History of allergic-type reactions to NSAIDs
- Pregnancy and lactation
- Severe hepatic dysfunction
- Renal creatinine clearance <30 ml/min
- Children and adolescents under 16 years of age
- Inflammatory bowel disease
- Congestive heart failure
- Uncontrolled hypertension
- Established ischaemic heart disease, peripheral arterial disease, or cerebrovascular disease

- Monitoring of renal function due to potential impairment
- Caution in patients with history of cardiac failure, left ventricular dysfunction, or hypertension
- Monitoring for liver dysfunction or abnormal liver function tests
- Discontinuation at first appearance of hypersensitivity signs
- Caution when co-administering with warfarin or other oral anticoagulants
