Description

  • Relieves signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis
  • Decreases the risk of developing gastric ulcers in patients at risk of NSAID-associated gastric ulcers
  • Combination of an immediate release Esomeprazole Magnesium layer and an enteric-coated Naproxen core
  • Recommended dosage for adults and adolescent patients based on weight and condition
  • Should be taken at least 30 minutes before meals
  • Contraindicated during the third trimester of pregnancy
  • Not recommended during breastfeeding
  • Should be avoided in patients with moderate to severe renal impairment

Contraindications

  • Use during the peri-operative period in the setting of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery

Side effects

  • Decreased incidence of gastrointestinal side effects from Naproxen
  • Decreased occurrence of gastric ulcers and NSAID-associated upper GI events compared to Naproxen alone
  • Potential small increased risk of arterial thrombotic events with long-term use
  • Reports of oedema, hypertension, cardiac failure, gastrointestinal adverse events, etc.

Pregnancy and lactation

  • Not recommended during the third trimester of pregnancy
  • Not recommended during breastfeeding
  • May impair female fertility

Precautions and warnings

  • Avoid use with other NSAIDs, especially cyclooxygenase-2 selective inhibitors
  • Minimize undesirable effects by using lowest effective dose for shortest duration
  • Caution in older people, patients with high age, concomitant use of anticoagulants, etc.
  • Regular surveillance for patients on long-term treatment
  • Increased risk of ulcers in older people

Special population use

  • Adjustment of dosage may be required in elderly patients
  • Not recommended for patients with moderate to severe or severe renal impairment
  • Monitor patients with hepatic impairment closely
  • Use caution when high doses are required in the elderly

Overdose effects and management

  • Symptoms of Naproxen overdose include lethargy, dizziness, abdominal discomfort, renal dysfunction, etc.
  • Symptoms of Esomeprazole overdose are transient
  • No specific antidotes
  • Symptomatic and supportive care recommended
