Pharmacology

Bactericidal second generation cephalosporin antibiotic

Dosage & Administration

  • 250 mg b.i.d. for adolescents and adults (Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis)
  • 250 mg b.i.d. for adolescents and adults (Acute Bacterial Maxillary Sinusitis)
  • 250-500 mg b.i.d. for adolescents and adults (Acute Bacterial Exacerbation of Chronic Bronchitis)
  • 250-500 mg b.i.d. for adolescents and adults (Secondary Bacterial Infections of Acute Bronchitis)
  • 250-500 mg b.i.d. for adolescents and adults (Uncomplicated Skin and Skin Structure Infections)
  • 250 mg b.i.d. for adolescents and adults (Uncomplicated Urinary Tract Infections)
  • 1000 mg b.i.d. Single dose for adolescents and adults (Uncomplicated Gonorrhoea)
  • 250-500 mg b.i.d. for adolescents and adults (Community Acquired Pneumonia)
  • 500 mg b.i.d. for adolescents and adults (MDR Typhoid Fever)

Interaction

Concomitant administration of probenecid with Cefuroxime-Clavulanic Acid increases the area under the serum concentration versus time curve by 50%

Contraindications

Known allergy to cephalosporin, Pseudomembranous Colitis
