Indications
- Relief of inflammatory manifestations
- Hyperkeratotic and dry corticosteroid responsive dermatoses
- Psoriasis
- Chronic atopic dermatitis
- Neurodermatitis
- Lichen planus
- Eczema
- Seborrheic dermatitis
- Ichthyosis vulgaris
Pharmacology
- Clobetasol Propionate as high potency corticosteroid
- Decrease inflammation by stabilizing leukocyte lysosomal membranes
- Preventing release of destructive acid hydrolases
- Inhibiting macrophage accumulation
- Reducing capillary wall permeability
- Salicylic Acid as potent keratolytic agent
- Slight antiseptic action when applied topically
- Softens and destroys the stratum corneum
Dosage & Administration
- Apply a thin layer twice daily
- Rub in gently & completely
- Discontinue therapy when control achieved
- Reassess diagnosis if no improvement within 2 weeks
- Not recommended for use in pediatric patients under 12 years of age
Interaction
- No reported interaction with Clobetasol Propionate
- Topical salicylic acid may increase absorption of other topically applied medicines
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Clobetasol Propionate
- Primary infected bacterial or fungal skin lesions
- Primary cutaneous viral infections
- Tuberculous skin lesions
- Dermatoses in children under one year of age
- Salicylate hyersensitivity
Side Effects
- Prolonged use can result in systemic absorption
- Local atrophy may occur after prolonged treatment
- Possible sensitivity reactions
- Drying and irritation when using Salicylic Acid
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Topical administration to pregnant animals can cause abnormalities of fetal development
- Safe use during lactation not established
- Use with caution during pregnancy and lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Use with caution on lesions close to the eye
- Possibility of adrenal suppression with prolonged use over extensive areas
- Hazardous in psoriasis due to various reasons
- Appropriate antimicrobial therapy should be used whenever treating inflammatory lesions
Overdose Effects
- Acute overdosage is very unlikely to occur
- Features of hypercortisolism may appear with chronic overdosage
- Systemic salicylate poisoning symptoms reported after application to large areas of skin and for prolonged periods
