Indications

Dosage Recommendations

  • 30 mg Once daily for Maintenance of Healed Erosive Esophagitis and Relief of Heartburn
  • 30 mg Once daily for Symptomatic Non-Erosive GERD for 4 weeks
  • 60 mg Once daily for Healing of Erosive Esophagitis for up to 8 weeks
  • One 30 mg tablet once daily for Maintenance of Healed Erosive Esophagitis and Relief of Heartburn for 6 months in adults
  • One 30 mg tablet once daily for Symptomatic Non-Erosive GERD for 4 weeks in patients 12 to 17 years of age

Mode of Action

Dexlansoprazole delayed-release capsule suppresses gastric acid secretion by specific inhibition of the (H+/K+)-ATPase in the gastric parietal cell.

Administration

  • Can be taken without regard to food
  • Swallowed whole or administered by sprinkling intact granules on one tablespoon and swallowing immediately. Granules should not be chewed.

Contraindications

Patients with known hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy Category B. No well-controlled studies with Dexlansoprazole in pregnant or lactating women.

Precautions & Warnings

  • Gastric Malignancy
  • Clostridium difficile Associated Diarrhea
  • Bone fracture
  • Hypomagnesemia
  • Concomitant use with Methotrexate

Use in Special Populations

  • Safety and effectiveness in patients below 12 years not established
  • No dose adjustment necessary for elderly patients
  • No dose adjustment necessary for patients with renal impairment
  • No dose adjustment necessary for patients with mild hepatic impairment. Consider maximum daily dose of 30 mg for patients with moderate hepatic impairment.

Overdose Effects

No reports of significant overdose. Multiple doses of Canalia 120 mg and a single dose of Canalia 300 mg did not result in severe adverse events or death.
