Pharmacology

Contraindications

- Not recommended for patients with known hypersensitivity to Vitamin D3
- Should not be used in cases of Vitamin D3 toxicity
Side effects
- Rare symptoms include anorexia, lassitude, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, weight loss, etc.
- Raised concentrations of calcium and phosphate in plasma and urine
Pregnancy and lactation
- Safe use during pregnancy reported up to 4000 IU doses
- Recommended daily intake for pregnant women is 400 IU
- Excreted in breast milk, overdose in breastfed infants not observed
Precautions and warnings
- Plasma calcium concentration should be monitored in patients receiving high doses or with renal impairment
- Consult health care practitioner before supplementing for those using Digoxin and Thiazide Diuretics
- Special caution for patients with liver or kidney disease, primary hyperthyroidism, etc.
