Description
Doxonil is used to treat bronchial asthma, bronchospasm, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and pulmonary disease with spastic bronchial component. It selectively inhibits phosphodiesterase 4, relaxes bronchial smooth muscle, and has decreased affinities toward adenosine A1 and A2 receptors. Dosage ranges from 200 mg for elderly to 400 mg for adults, with specific doses for children based on age and body weight. It should not be administered with other xanthine preparations, and caution is advised when combined with ephedrine or sympathomimetic drugs. Contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to the drug or xanthine derivatives, acute myocardial infarction, hypotension, and during lactation. Side effects may include nausea, vomiting, tachycardia, and insomnia, with potential overdose effects leading to severe cardiac arrhythmias and tonic-clonic seizures. It is contraindicated during lactation and should be used with caution in patients with cardiac disease, hypertension, severe hypoxemia, and renal impairment. The therapeutic class of the medicine is a bronchodilator and methyl xanthine derivatives, and it should be stored in a dry place away from light and heat, and out of the reach of children.
