Zavicefta (2 gm+0.5 gm)/vial (IV Infusion)

Indications

• Treatment of complicated intra-abdominal infection (cIAI)
• Treatment of complicated urinary tract infection (cUTI), including pyelonephritis
• Treatment of hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP), including ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP)
• Treatment of bacteraemia associated with the above infections
• Treatment of infections due to aerobic Gram-negative organisms

Pharmacology

• Inhibits bacterial peptidoglycan cell wall synthesis
• Binds to penicillin binding proteins (PBPs)
• Leads to bacterial cell lysis and death
• Acts as a non-beta-lactam, beta-lactamase inhibitor
• Inhibits both Ambler class A and class C beta-lactamases
• Inhibits some class D enzymes including ESBLs, KPC, OXA-48 carbapenemases, and AmpC enzymes

Dosage & Administration

• Recommended for adults and pediatric patients aged 3 months and older
• Dosage based on the type of infection
• Treatment duration varies based on the type of infection

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to active substances or excipients
• Hypersensitivity to any cephalosporin antibacterial agent
• Severe hypersensitivity to any other type of beta-lactam antibacterial agent

Side Effects

• Severe allergic reactions
• Sudden swelling of lips, face, throat, or tongue
• Severe rash or other severe skin reactions
• Difficulty swallowing or breathing
• Diarrhoea
• Stools containing blood or mucus

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Potential effects on pregnancy and embryonal/foetal development
• Unknown excretion in human milk
• Risks and benefits for breast feeding mothers

• No special storage conditions required
• Store in the original package to protect from light

Use in Special Populations

• No dosage adjustment required in elderly patients
• No dosage adjustment required in patients with mild renal impairment
