Indications

  • Treatment of deep vein thrombosis
  • Treatment of unstable angina
  • Prevention of thrombus formation in haemodialysis
  • Prophylaxis of venous thromboembolic disease
  • Prophylaxis of venous thromboembolic disease in medical patients

Composition

  • Each 0.2 ml pre-filled syringe contains Enoxaparin Sodium BP 20 mg equivalent to 2000 anti-Xa IU
  • Each 0.4 ml pre-filled syringe contains Enoxaparin Sodium BP 40 mg equivalent to 4000 anti-Xa IU
  • Each 0.6 ml pre-filled syringe contains Enoxaparin Sodium BP 60 mg equivalent to 6000 anti-Xa IU
  • Each 0.8 ml pre-filled syringe contains Enoxaparin Sodium BP 80 mg equivalent to 8000 anti-Xa IU

Pharmacology

Low molecular weight heparin with high anti-Xa activity and low anti-lla or antithrombin activity

Dosage

  • Subcutaneously 100 anti-Xa lU/kg twice daily for 10 days for deep vein thrombosis
  • Subcutaneously 150 anti-Xa lU/kq once daily for 10 days for deep vein thrombosis
  • Subcutaneously 100 anti-Xa lU/kg twice daily for 2-8 days for unstable angina
  • Recommended dose of 100 anti-Xa lU/kg during hemodialysis
  • Prophylactic dose ranges: 2000 antiXa IU once daily for general surgery
  • Prophylactic dose ranges: 4000 anti-Xa IU once daily for orthopedic surgery
  • Prophylactic dose ranges: 4000 anti-Xa IU once daily for medical patients

Interaction

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to Enoxaparin Sodium
  • Active major bleeding
  • Conditions with high risk of uncontrolled hemorrhage

Side Effects

  • Haemorrhage (bleeding)
  • Thrombocytopenia
  • Elevations of serum aminotransferase
  • Pain at injection sites
  • Skin rash at injection sites
  • Neuraxial hematomas with spinal/epidural anesthesia

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy category B; no evidence of placental transfer, caution in nursing mothers

Precautions & Warnings

  • Deep subcutaneous administration
  • Use with caution in conditions with increased potential for bleeding
  • Recommended platelet counts measurement before initiation of treatment

Overdose Effects

Accidental overdosage can lead to hemorrhagic complications, can be neutralized by protamine sulfate
