Indications

Treatment of hypertension

Pharmacology

Olmesartan blocks vasoconstrictor effects of angiotensin-II
Hydrochlorothiazide affects renal tubular mechanisms of electrolyte reabsorption

Dosage & Administration

Usual starting dose of 20/12.5 mg once daily
Dose may be titrated at intervals of 2-4 weeks

Interaction

Olmesartan has no significant drug interactions
Hydrochlorothiazide may interact with alcohol, barbiturates, narcotics, antidiabetic drugs, other antihypertensive drugs, corticosteroids, ACTH, lithium

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any component
Anuria or hypersensitivity to sulfonamide-derived drugs

Use in Special Populations

Renal Impairment Patients: Follow usual therapy regimens if creatinine clearance is >30 ml/min
Hepatic Impairment: No dosage adjustment necessary
Paediatric use: Not established
Geriatric use: Dose selection should be cautious for elderly patients

Overdose Effects

Olmesartan overdose may result in hypotension and tachycardia
Hydrochlorothiazide overdose may cause electrolyte depletion and dehydration
