Indications

  • Treatment of deep vein thrombosis, with or without pulmonary embolism
  • Treatment of unstable angina and non-Q-wave myocardial infarction, administered concurrently with aspirin
  • Prevention of thrombus formation in the extra-corporeal circulation during haemodialysis
  • Prophylaxis of venous thromboembolic disease
  • Prophylaxis of venous thromboembolic disease in medical patients bedridden due to acute illness
  • Prophylaxis of venous thromboembolic disease in surgical patients

Composition

  • Enoxaparin Sodium BP 20 mg in 0.2 ml pre-filled syringe
  • Enoxaparin Sodium BP 40 mg in 0.4 ml pre-filled syringe
  • Enoxaparin Sodium BP 60 mg in 0.6 ml pre-filled syringe
  • Enoxaparin Sodium BP 80 mg in 0.8 ml pre-filled syringe

Pharmacology

Low molecular weight heparin with high anti-Xa activity and low anti-IIa or antithrombin activity. Metabolized in the liver.

Interaction

Agents affecting hemostasis should be discontinued prior to Eparin therapy unless strictly indicated.

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to Enoxaparin Sodium, heparin or other low molecular weight heparins
  • Active major bleeding
  • Conditions with a high risk of uncontrolled hemorrhage including recent hemorrhagic stroke

Side Effects

  • Haemorrhage
  • Thrombocytopenia
  • Elevations of serum aminotransferase
  • Pain and skin marks at injection sites
  • Neuraxial hematomas

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Pregnancy category B
  • Unknown excretion in human milk
  • Consideration for nursing mothers

Precautions & Warnings

  • Deep subcutaneous route for administration
  • Caution in conditions with increased potential for bleeding
  • Platelet count monitoring

Overdose Effects

Accidental overdosage may lead to hemorrhagic complications. Protamine sulfate can be used for neutralization.
