Description

  • Multiple-Unit Pellet System (MUPS) tablets for Gastro-esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)
  • Risk reduction in NSAID associated gastric ulcer
  • H. pylori eradication (Triple therapy)
  • Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and idiopathic hypersecretion

Composition

  • 20mg Esomeprazole MUPS tablet
  • 40mg Esomeprazole MUPS tablet

Dosage

  • 40mg once daily for 4 weeks (Adults)
  • 20mg once daily for maintenance of healing (Adults)
  • 20mg twice daily for H. pylori eradication
  • 40-80mg twice daily for Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and idiopathic hypersecretion

Mode of Action

  • Inhibits gastric acid by blocking the proton pump of the gastric parietal cell

Administration

  • Swallow whole with liquid, not to be chewed or crushed. Can be dispersed in non-carbonated water if necessary.

Interaction

  • Metabolized in the liver by CYP2C19 and CYP3A4
  • Not likely to inhibit CYPs 1A2, 2A6, 2C9, 2D6, 2E1 and 3A4
  • May interfere with the absorption of certain drugs based on gastric pH

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to any of the formulation

Pregnancy and Lactation

  • Caution advised. Not known if Esomeprazole or its metabolites appear in human breast milk

Precautions and Warnings

  • Use with caution in severe liver dysfunction and severe renal impairment
  • May slightly increase the risk of hip, wrist, and spine fracture over long-term use

  • Below 25°C, protect from light, keep out of reach of children
