Indications

Pharmacology

  • Combination of magaldrate and simethicone
  • Magaldrate neutralizes gastric acid
  • Magaldrate decreases pepsin activity in gastric secretion
  • Simethicone enables gas bubble coalescence

Dosage & Administration

  • Tablet dosage: 1-4 chewable tablets after meals and at bedtime
  • Suspension dosage: 2-4 teaspoonfuls of suspension after meals and at bedtime

Interaction

  • Not to be used with Tetracycline
  • May affect bioavailability or absorption of certain drugs like propranolol, isoniazid, prednisolone, and naproxen

Contraindications

  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to magnesium or aluminium
  • Contraindicated in patients with impaired renal function

Side Effects

  • Uncommon gastrointestinal side-effects
  • Possible side effects: diarrhea, constipation, regurgitation with excessive consumption

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • May be used in pregnancy if indicated with caution
  • May pass into breast milk

Precautions & Warnings

  • Care should be taken in decreased kidney function
  • Care should be taken in hypophosphataemia
  • Care should be taken in weak individuals

Overdose Effects

  • Overdosage is rare
