Indications

  • Treatment of nausea and vomiting of pregnancy

Pharmacology

  • Doxylamine Succinate as antihistamine
  • Pyridoxine Hydrochloride as vitamin B6 analog
  • Blocks Histamine (H1) receptor
  • Crosses blood brain barrier
  • Inhibits vestibular system & Muscarinic receptor

Dosage & Administration

  • Initial dose of one tablet orally at bedtime
  • Maximum recommended dose of two tablets per day
  • Take on an empty stomach with a glass of water
  • Swallow tablets whole

Interaction

  • Contraindicated with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)
  • Not recommended with alcohol or CNS depressants

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to Doxylamine Succinate or Pyridoxine Hydrochloride
  • Concurrent use of MAO inhibitors

Side Effects

  • Somnolence
  • Accidents resulting from combined use with CNS depressants

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Pregnancy category A
  • Excreted into breast milk
  • Exercise caution while breastfeeding

Precautions & Warnings

  • May cause somnolence and anticholinergic effects
  • Avoid activities requiring mental alertness
  • Use caution in women with asthma or glaucoma

Overdose Effects

  • Signs and symptoms of intoxication may not be immediate
  • Signs and symptoms may include mental confusion and tachycardia
  • At toxic doses, exhibits anticholinergic effects
