Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage: 75-150 mg daily in 2-3 divided doses
- Dose reduction in long term use
- Children dosage: 1-3 mg of diclofenac/kg body wt. daily in divided doses
- Lowest effective dosage recommended for elderly patients
- External use dosage: 2-4 g of Diclofenac gel applied to the skin 3-4 times daily
Interaction
- May increase plasma concentrations of lithium and digoxin
- Risk of haemorrhage with the combined use of diclofenac and anticoagulants
- Can be given together with oral antidiabetic agents
- Nephrotoxicity reported in patients receiving cyclosporine and diclofenac concomitantly
- Serious toxicity reported when methotrexate and NSAIDs given within 24 hours of each other
- Convulsions may occur due to an interaction between quinolones and NSAIDs
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any ingredient
- Peptic ulcer
- Hypersensitivity to Diclofenac or other non-steroid anti-inflammatory agents
- Contra-indicated in asthmatic patients

- Generally well tolerated
- Mild, rare, and transient adverse effects
- Epigastric pain
- Eructation
- Nausea
- Diarrhea
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Peripheral edema
- Skin reactions such as rash and eczema
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Employed only for compelling reasons during pregnancy
- Lowest effective dose to be used
- Not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy
- Not recommended during lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Close observation in rare instances of peptic ulceration or gastrointestinal bleeding
- Advanced age patients should be kept under close observation
- Avoid contact with eyes or mucus membranes
- Avoid ingestion
