Indications
- Treatment of panic disorder
- Treatment of Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome
- Adjunct in the treatment of seizures
- Long-term use not systematically studied
Pharmacology
- Anticonvulsive effect
- Sedative effect
- Muscle relaxing effect
- Anxiolytic effect
- Enhancement of GABAergic neurotransmission
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage not to exceed 1.5 mg/day
- Initial dose for panic disorder is 0.25 mg
- Pediatric dose based on body weight
- Dosage increment every 3 days
- Maximum recommended daily dose is 20 mg
Interaction
- No alteration of phenytoin, carbamazepine, or phenobarbital
- Effects on the metabolism of other drugs not investigated
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to benzodiazepines
- Clinical or biochemical evidence of significant liver disease
- Contradicted in acute narrow angle glaucoma

- Greater pharmacologic effects in geriatric use
Overdose Effects
- Symptoms include drowsiness, ataxia, and dysarthria
- May lead to cardiorespiratory depression and coma
