Dosage & Administration
- Adults:
- Up to 120 mg/day for acute disorders
- Maintenance doses usually within 3-18 mg/day range for most conditions
- Gradual reduction for maintenance in chronic asthma
- Children:
- Limited exposure in clinical trials
- Usual maintenance dose between 0.25-1.0 mg/kg/day
- Alternate day administration may be appropriate
Interaction
- Metabolized in the liver
- Recommendation to adjust maintenance dose when co-administered with liver enzyme inducers or inhibitors

- Caution in gastritis, oesophagitis, diverticulitis, ulcerative colitis
- Monitoring for salt and water retention and potassium excretion
- Careful consideration in diabetes mellitus, osteoporosis, myasthenia gravis, renal insufficiency
- Special precaution for emotional instability or psychotic tendency, epilepsy
- Monitoring for corticosteroid-induced myopathy
