Description
- Combination product containing Amlodipine and Atorvastatin
- Amlodipine Besilate BP equivalent to 5 mg Amlodipine
- Atorvastatin calcium INN equivalent to 10 mg Atorvastatin
- Peripheral arterial vasodilator
- Synthetic lipid-lowering agent
- Inhibitor of 3-hydroxy-3-methyl-glutaryl-coenzyme A
- Usual initial antihypertensive dose is 5 mg once daily
- Recommended starting dose of Atorvastatin is 10 mg daily
Indications
- Hypertension
- Chronic stable angina
- Hypercholesterolemia
- Reduction of risk of nonfatal MI
- Reduction of risk of nonfatal stroke
- Treatment of chronic stable angina
- Treatment of vasospastic angina
Pharmacology
- Reduction in peripheral vascular resistance
- Reduction in blood pressure
- Early and rate limiting step in the synthesis of cholesterol
Dosage & Administration
- Usual initial antihypertensive oral dose is 5 mg
- Maximum dose of 10 mg once daily
- Recommended dose for chronic stable or vasospastic angina is 5-10 mg
- Recommended starting dose of Atorvastatin is 10 mg

- Drug interaction with atorvastatin
- Drug interaction with amlodipine
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Amlodipine
- Hypersensitivity to any component of Atorvastatin
- Active liver disease
Side Effects
- Acute hypotension
- Increased frequency, duration, or severity of angina or acute myocardial infarction on starting calcium channel blocker therapy
- Elevation in serum creatine phosphokinase levels
- Uncomplicated myalgia
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Safety in pregnancy not established
- Not recommended during breastfeeding
Precautions & Warnings
- Increased angina and/or myocardial infarction
- Biochemical abnormalities of liver function
- Potential for acute hypotension
- Use with caution in patients with heart failure
- Rhabdomyolysis with acute renal failure secondary to myoglobinuria
Use in Special Populations
- Safety and efficacy of Atorvastatin not established in children
- Efficacy and safety in older patients using recommended doses similar to general population
