Indications

Description
- Acid-stable and semi-synthetic oral cephalosporin
- Rapidly absorbed after oral administration
- Maintains urine concentration above MIC of susceptible urinary pathogens
Pharmacology
- Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis
- Binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs)
- Inhibits final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis
- Causes bacterial cell death
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage: 1-2 g per day in divided doses
- Child dosage: 30 mg/kg daily in divided doses
- May be taken with or without meals
- Administer with food to diminish potential gastrointestinal complaints
Interactions
- No significant drug interaction with other drugs
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with history of hypersensitivity to Cefadroxil

- Commonly reported side effects: gastrointestinal disturbances and hypersensitivity phenomena

- Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed
- Excreted in human milk
- Caution during lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- May cause pseudomembranous colitis
- Caution during diagnosis in patients with diarrhea associated with therapy
