Indications
- Treatment of upper respiratory tract infections
- Treatment of urinary tract infections
- Treatment of skin & soft tissue infections
Description
- Cedril is an acid-stable and semi-synthetic oral cephalosporin
- Rapid absorption after oral administration
- Maintains urine concentration well above MIC of susceptible urinary pathogens
Pharmacology
- Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis
- Binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs)
- Inhibits final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage for different infections
- Child dosage in divided doses every 12 hours
- Can be taken with or without meals
Interaction
- No significant drug interaction with other drugs
Contraindications
- Patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Cefadroxil or any of the ingredients
Side Effects
- Generally well tolerated
- Commonly reported side effects: gastrointestinal disturbances and hypersensitivity phenomena
Pregnancy & Lactation
- US FDA pregnancy category: B
- No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women
- Excretion in human milk
- Caution during lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- May cause pseudomembranous colitis
- Caution during diagnosis in patients who develop diarrhea in association with Cedril therapy
