Indications
- Relief of symptoms due to hay fever or upper respiratory allergies
- Treatment of nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, itchy eyes, swelling of nasal passages, sinus congestion
Pharmacology
- Loratadine - non-sedative histamine H1-receptor antagonist
- Pseudoephedrine - sympathomimetic amine with decongestant action
- Selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonistic activity
Dosage
- Adult dosage: 5/120 tablet twice daily or 10/240 tablet once daily
- Lower initial dose for renal insufficiency patients
- Not recommended for swallowing difficulties or upper GI issues
Administration
- For patients 12 years and older
- Combines antihistamine and nasal decongestant properties
Interaction
- Contraindicated with MAO inhibitors
- May reduce effects of certain antihypertensive drugs
- Increased plasma concentration with Erythromycin, Ketoconazole, Cimetidine
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any component of the product
Side Effects
- Common: dry mouth, somnolence, insomnia, dizziness
- Less common: increased sweating, back pain, palpitations, myalgia
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy category B - no known risk in humans
- Not recommended during lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Avoid in hepatic insufficiency patients
- Lower initial dose for renal insufficiency
- Caution in hypertension, diabetes, ischemic heart disease patients
Overdose Effects
- Symptomatic and supportive measures recommended
- Emesis followed by activated charcoal administration for overdose treatment
