Pharmacology
- Synthetic broad-spectrum antibiotic
- Bactericidal
- Inhibits bacterial topoisomerase IV
- Inhibits DNA gyrase enzymes
- Effective against Gram-positive ocular pathogens
- Effective against Gram-negative ocular pathogens
Dosage & Administration
- 0.5% eye drop for adults and children 1 year and older
- 1-2 drops every 2 hours on days 1 and 2
- 1-2 drops every 4 hours on days 3 through 7
- 1.5% eye drop for adults and children 6 years and older
- 1-2 drops every 30 minutes to 2 hours on days 1-3
- 1-2 drops every 1 to 4 hours from day 4 through treatment completion
- Safety and effectiveness not established for children under 1 year
Interaction
- Elevation of plasma concentrations of theophylline
- Interference with the metabolism of caffeine
- Enhanced effects of oral anticoagulant warfarin and its derivatives
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Levofloxacin
- Hypersensitivity to other quinolones
- Hypersensitivity to components of the medication

- Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms
- Discontinue use if superinfection occurs
