Description
CoxTop is indicated for the symptomatic relief of osteoarthritis (OA), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), ankylosing spondylitis, acute gouty arthritis, and moderate pain associated with dental surgery. It is a potent COX-2 specific inhibitor with effects on pain, inflammation, and fever.

Pharmacology
Etoricoxib is a potent, orally active COX-2 specific inhibitor that decreases clinical signs and symptoms with decreased potential for GI toxicity and effects on platelet aggregation. It primarily inhibits the synthesis of prostanoid mediators of pain, inflammation, and fever.
Dosage & Administration
- 30 mg once daily for OA
- 90 mg once daily for RA and ankylosing spondylitis
- 120 mg once daily for acute gouty arthritis
- 90 mg once daily for postoperative dental surgery pain
Additional Postoperative Analgesia
Some patients may require additional postoperative analgesia.
Shortest Duration and Lowest Effective Daily Dose
The shortest duration possible and the lowest effective daily dose should be used to minimize cardiovascular risks.
Interactions
- Medicine:
- Oral anticoagulants
- Diuretics, ACE inhibitors and Angiotensin II Antagonists
- Acetylsalicylic Acid
- Ciclosporin and tacrolimus
- Lithium
- Food & Others: Take without regards to meals.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients
- Active peptic ulceration or active gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding
- Pregnancy and lactation
- Severe hepatic dysfunction
- Estimated renal creatinine clearance <30 ml/min
- Children and adolescents under 16 years of age
- Inflammatory bowel disease
- Congestive heart failure
- Hypertension
- Established ischaemic heart disease, peripheral arterial disease, and/or cerebrovascular disease

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy: The use of Etoricoxib is not recommended in women attempting to conceive.
- Lactation: Etoricoxib is excreted in the milk of lactating rats. Women who use Etoricoxib must not breastfeed.
Precautions & Warnings
- Caution in patients at risk of developing GI complications with NSAIDs
- Caution in patients with significant risk factors for cardiovascular events
- Monitoring of renal function due to potential impairment
- Caution in patients with history of cardiac failure or hypertension
- Monitoring for signs of hepatic insufficiency
- Discontinuation at the first appearance of hypersensitivity
- Caution when co-administering with warfarin or other oral anticoagulants
Overdose Effects
No significant toxicity reported up to single doses of 500 mg and multiple doses up to 150 mg/day. Supportive measures to be employed in case of overdose.
