Dosage & Administration
- Taken before meals
- Adults dose: 10-20 mg every 6-8 hours
- Children dose: 2-4 ml suspension/10 kg body weight
- Rectal dose for adults: 30-60 mg every 4-8 hours
- Maximum dose for adults: 80 mg daily
Interaction
- Anticholinergic drugs antagonism
- Lower oral bioavailability with antacids and antisecretory drugs
- Metabolic pathway through CYP3A4
- Inhibition of CYP3A4 by azole antifungals, macrolide antibiotics, etc.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the drug
- Neonates
- Gastrointestinal hemorrhage
- Mechanical obstruction or perforation
- Prolactin releasing pituitary tumor
Side Effects
- Transient intestinal cramps

- Increase in plasma prolactin level

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Given to animals at doses up to 160 mg/kg/day
