Description
- Cipex is indicated for the treatment of single infection or mixed infections caused by two or more susceptible organisms
- Ciprofloxacin is a synthetic quinolone anti-infective agent with broad spectrum of activity
- Dosage is determined by the severity and type of infection, the sensitivity of the causative organism(s), and the patient's age, weight, and renal function
- Contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Ciprofloxacin or other quinolones
- Gastrointestinal disturbances, disturbances of the central nervous system, hypersensitivity reactions, joint pain, mild photosensitivity, transient increase in liver enzymes, risk of hypoglycemia, and mental health adverse effects are possible side effects
- Reproduction studies in animals did not reveal evidence of teratogenicity, impairment of fertility, or impairment of peri/postnatal development, but it has been shown to cause arthropathy in immature animals
- Should be used with caution in patients with suspected or known CNS disorders such as arteriosclerosis or epilepsy

Indications and Usage
- Treatment of severe systemic infections, respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, gastrointestinal infections, biliary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, bone and joint infections, pelvic infections, eye, ear, nose, and throat infections, and gonorrhea caused by sensitive bacteria
Pharmacology
- Synthetic quinolone anti-infective agent active against most gram-negative aerobic bacteria including Enterobacteriaceae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa
- Active against gram-positive aerobic bacteria including penicillinase producing, non-penicillinase producing, and methicillin-resistant staphylococci
