Indications

Pharmacology
- Inhibition of Ergosterol biosynthesis
- Inhibition of Squalene Epoxidase enzyme
- Fungicidal against specific microorganisms
Dosage & Administration
- 250 mg tablet daily for 6 weeks for fingernail onychomycosis
- 250 mg tablet daily for 12 weeks for toenail onychomycosis
- Different dosages based on body weight for granules
- Once or twice daily application for cream
- Once or twice daily application for 1% spray
Interaction
- Inhibition of CYP450 2D6 isozyme
- Careful co-administration with specific drug classes
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to terbinafine

- Not recommended during pregnancy

Precautions & Warnings
- Rare cases of liver failure
- Discontinue if evidence of liver injury
- Discontinue in case of progressive skin rash
- External use only for cream
- Avoid contact with eyes for cream
- Not recommended for patients with chronic or active liver disease
- Assessment of pre-existing liver disease before prescribing
- Pretreatment serum transaminase test for all patients before taking terbinafine tablets
Use in Special Populations
- Safety and efficacy not established in pediatric patients
- No evidence of different dosages or side-effects in elderly patients
Overdose Effects
- Limited clinical experience
- Doses up to 5 gm taken without serious adverse reactions
