Indications
- Treatment of chorea associated with Huntington's disease
Pharmacology
- VMAT-2 inhibitor
- Symptomatic treatment of hyperkinetic disorders
Dosage & Administration
- Can be taken with or without food
- Required careful weekly titration
- Specific dosing for different weeks
- Genotyping for drug-metabolizing enzyme recommended for higher doses
Interaction
- Interaction with strong CYP2D6 inhibitors
- Interaction with reserpine
- No interaction with food
Contraindications
- Actively suicidal or depressed patients
- Hepatic impairment
- Concurrent use of MAOIs, reserpine, deutetrabenazine, or valbenazine
