Description

  • Combination of two antacids (Calcium carbonate and Sodium bicarbonate) and an alginate (Sodium alginate)
  • Relieves gastric reflux, heartburn, indigestion, and flatulence associated with gastric reflux

Pharmacology

  • Mode of action: neutralizes excess stomach acid
  • Forms a protective barrier over stomach contents
  • Physical action, not dependent on absorption into the systemic circulation
  • Forms alginic acid gel with near neutral pH
  • Interacts with and caps the acid pocket in the stomach to reduce esophageal acid exposure
  • Floats on stomach contents effectively impeding gastro-esophageal reflux for up to 4 hours
  • Protects esophagus from acid, pepsin, and bile
  • Entsrap bile and pepsin within its structure
  • Calcium carbonate neutralizes gastric acid for fast relief from indigestion and heartburn
  • Sodium bicarbonate also has a neutralizing action

Dosage & Administration

  • Adults and children over 12 years: 10-20 mL after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day (oral suspension)
  • Children 6 to 12 years: 5-10 mL after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day (oral suspension)
  • Children under 6 years: not recommended (oral suspension)
  • Elderly: no dose modifications necessary (oral suspension)
  • Adults and children 12 years and over: two to four chewable tablets after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day
  • Chewable tablet should be taken after being thoroughly chewed
  • Hepatic impairment: no dose modification necessary
  • Renal insufficiency: caution if highly restricted salt diet is necessary

Interaction

  • Consider a time-interval of 2 hours between Novelta Power intake and the administration of other medicinal products, especially certain medications

Contraindications

  • Patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to the active ingredients or excipients

  • High calcium content, caution for hypercalcaemia, nephrocalcinosis, and recurrent renal calculi
  • Not generally recommended for children under 12 years except on medical advice

  • Aspartame content, caution for phenylketonuria
