Indications
- Constipation of any etiology
- Relief from prolonged & recurrent constipation
- Bowel clearance before surgery, childbirth or radiological investigations
Pharmacology
- Triarylmethane group derivative stimulant laxative
- Activated by colonic bacteria
- Acts locally in the colon
- Stimulates nerve endings of intestinal wall
- Results in colonic peristalsis with promotion of water and electrolytes accumulation
Dosage & Administration
- For oral administration
- Recommended to be taken at night for evacuation the following morning
- Start with the lowest dose
- Dose may be adjusted up to the maximum recommended dose to produce regular stools
- Maximum recommended daily dose should not be exceeded
Interaction
- Concomitant use of diuretics or adreno-corticosteroids may increase risk of electrolyte imbalance
- Concurrent administration of antibiotics may reduce the laxative action
Contraindications
- Ileus or intestinal obstruction
- Severe painful and/or feverish acute abdominal conditions
- Acute inflammatory bowel diseases
- Severe dehydration
- Known hypersensitivity to Sodium Picosulfate or any other component of the product

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Avoid use during the first trimester
- No reports of undesirable effects during pregnancy or to the foetus
- Neither active moiety nor its glucuronides excreted into the milk of healthy lactating females
Precautions & Warnings
- Prolonged excessive use may lead to fluid and electrolyte imbalance and hypokalemia
- Harmful for those suffering from alcoholism
- To be taken into account in pregnant or breast-feeding women, children and high-risk groups
Overdose Effects
- Chronic laxative abuse may cause chronic diarrhea, abdominal pain, hypokalemia
- Renal tubular damage, metabolic alkalosis, and muscle weakness
