Dosage & Administration

Interaction

  • Symptomatic postural hypotension risk

  • Bioavailability decrease when ingested with ferrous sulphate
  • Therapeutic effects reduction with dopamine-2 receptor antagonists and isoniazid

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to Carbidopa and Levodopa
  • Narrow-angle glaucoma presence
  • Risk of activating malignant melanoma

  • Frequent adverse effects: dyskinesias, nausea

  • Visceral and skeletal malformations in rabbits
  • Careful consideration for use in women of childbearing potential
  • Unknown excretion in human milk
  • Weighting benefits against possible hazards for nursing mothers

Precautions & Warnings

  • Not recommended for medicine-induced extrapyramidal reactions
  • Initial Levodopa discontinuation before Carbidopa-Levodopa use
  • Observation for depression and suicidal tendencies
  • Caution in patients with severe cardiovascular or pulmonary disease, renal, hepatic or endocrine disease, or a history of peptic ulcer
  • Monitoring for changes in intraocular pressure

Use in Special Populations

  • Not recommended for patients below 18 years
