Indications

• Monotherapy in the treatment of partial-onset seizures
• Adjunctive therapy for partial-onset seizures in all age groups
• Treatment of myoclonic seizures in Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy
• Treatment of primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures in Idiopathic Generalised Epilepsy

Description

• Precise mechanism(s) unknown for antiepileptic effect
• Minimal activity in submaximal stimulation
• Protection against secondarily generalized activity
• Inhibits burst firing without affecting normal neuronal excitability

Dosage

• Recommended starting dose of 250 mg twice daily
• Maximum dose of 1500 mg twice daily for adults
• Different dosing regimen for pediatric population
• Dose adjustments based on clinical response and tolerability

Administration

• Oral administration with liquid
• Dosage divided into two equal parts daily

Interactions

• No influence on serum concentrations of existing antiepileptic drugs
• Inhibitory effect with probenecid on metabolite clearance
