Indications
- Treatment of partial-onset seizures
- Adjunctive therapy for seizures

Description
- Mechanism of antiepileptic effect is unknown
- Minimal activity in stimulation tests
- Protection against generalized activity
- Inhibition of burst firing in hippocampus
Dosage
- Recommended starting dose for adults and adolescents from 16 years of age
- Starting dose for adults (≥18 years) and adolescents (12 to 17 years) weighing 50 kg or more
- Use of oral solution for infants and children under the age of 6 years
- Safety and efficacy of monotherapy treatment in children and adolescents below 16 years not established
Administration
- Oral administration
- Swallowed with sufficient quantity of liquid
- May be taken with or without food
- Administered in two equally divided doses
Interaction
- No influence on serum concentrations of existing antiepileptic medicinal products
- Effect on methotrexate clearance
- Reports of decreased efficacy when concomitantly administered with osmotic laxative
- No alteration in absorption by food, but slightly reduced rate of absorption
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or other pyrrolidone derivatives

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended during pregnancy
- Excretion in human breast milk
- Breastfeeding not recommended

- Cases of decreased blood cell counts
- Reported cases of suicide, suicidal ideation and behavior
- Not adapted for use in infants and children under the age of 6 years

- No dose adjustment for patients with mild to moderate hepatic impairment

Overdose Effects
- Observation of somnolence, agitation, aggression, and respiratory depression
