Description
- Treats bronchial asthma

- Contains dioxolane group in position 7
- Selective phosphodiesterase 4 inhibitor
- Relaxes bronchial smooth muscle
- Decreased affinities toward adenosine A1 and A2 receptors
- Inhibits platelet activating factor (PAF)
- Inhibits leukotriene production
- Dosage for elderly: 200 mg tablet two or three times daily
- Dosage for adults: 400 mg tablet two or three times daily
- Dosage for children over 12 years of age: 10 ml syrup or 200 mg tablet two or three times daily
- Dosage for children 6-12 years of age: 6-9 mg/kg body weight two times daily
- Doxophylline SR tablet to be taken once daily if required daily dose is 400 mg
- Should not be administered with other xanthine preparations
- Limit consumption of beverages and food containing caffeine
- Exercise caution when administering with ephedrine or other sympathomimetic drugs
- Concurrent administration with certain drugs may reduce hepatic clearance
- May increase dosage in case of concurrent use with phenytoin, other anticonvulsants, and cigarette smoking
- Contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to the drug or other xanthine derivatives
- Contraindicated in patients with acute myocardial infarction, hypotension, and during lactation
- Possible side effects: nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, headache, irritability, insomnia, tachycardia, extrasystoles, tachypnea, hyperglycemia, albuminuria
- Severe cardiac arrhythmias and tonic-clonic seizure may occur in case of overdose
- Animal tests suggest no interference with pre and postnatal growth
- Effects during pregnancy should be evaluated carefully on a case-by-case basis
- Contraindicated during lactation
- Does not affect the patient's alertness
- Factors may reduce hepatic clearance with increased plasma levels
- Caution in administering to patients with various conditions including cardiac disease, hypertension, hypoxemia, hyperthyroidism, chronic corpulmonale, congestive heart failure, liver disease, peptic ulcer, and renal impairment
- No risk of addiction or dependence
- Keep in a dry place away from light and heat
- Should be used only on prescription of a specialist physician
