Product Information
- Indications: Temporarily relieves symptoms due to common cold, hay fever, or other upper respiratory allergies such as cough, runny nose, sneezing, itching of nose or throat, itchy watery eyes, nasal congestion, and reduces swelling of nasal passages.
- Pharmacology: Mixture of antitussive, decongestant, and antihistamine agents, including dextromethorphan, phenylephrine, and triprolidine.
- Dosage: For adults & children 12 years and older: 1 teaspoonful (5 ml) every 4 hours; for children 6 to under 12 years: ½ teaspoonful (2.5 ml) every 4 hours; caution advised for children 2 to 6 years; not to be used in children below 2 years.
- Administration: Can be taken with or without food; liquid doses should be measured using the provided measuring device.
- Interaction: Caution required when using with certain MAO inhibitors, antihistamines, antispasmodics, beta blockers, drugs for Parkinson's disease, guanethidine, inhaled anesthetics, methyldopa, reserpine, scopolamine, tricyclic antidepressants, anti-seizure drugs, medicine for sleep or anxiety, muscle relaxants, narcotic pain relievers, and psychiatric medicines.
- Contraindications: Should be avoided in patients with liver disease, asthma, severe hypertension, severe coronary artery disease, or known hypersensitivity to certain components; contraindicated in patients taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors or within 2 weeks from stopping such treatment, and during acute attacks of asthma.
- Side Effects: May cause drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, GIT discomfort, transient hypertension, dry mouth, restlessness, palpitations, allergic reactions, tightness of chest, thickening of bronchial secretions, toxic psychosis, and blood dyscrasia.
- Pregnancy & Lactation: Best avoided during pregnancy and lactation.
- Precautions & Warnings: May cause drowsiness; should not drive or operate machinery if affected; caution advised in patients with epilepsy, prostatic hypertrophy, glaucoma, hepatic disease, hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, and certain obstructions; consult a physician if symptoms do not improve within one week or are accompanied by high fever.
- Overdose Effects: Hospital admission strongly advised in cases of overdose; may produce respiratory depression, paranoid psychosis, delusions, hallucinations, and convulsion.
