Pharmacology
- Synthetic glucocorticoid
- Inhibits leukocyte migration
- Decreases capillary permeability
- Suppresses immune response
- Inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase
- Inhibits Topoisomerase IV
- Replication and transcription inhibition of bacterial DNA
Dosage & Administration
- Instill 1-2 drops into the conjunctival sac 3-4 times daily
Contraindications
- Epithelial herpes simplex keratitis
- Vaccinia
- Varicella
- Viral diseases of conjunctiva and cornea
- Mycobacterial infection of the eye
- Fungal diseases of ocular structures
- Hypersensitivity to components
Side Effects
- Mild burning
- Chemosis
- Redness
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Use in pregnancy only if benefit justifies risk to fetus
- Caution in lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Ophthalmic use only
- Routine monitoring of intraocular pressure if used for 10 days or more
