Cope 100 mg (Tablet)

Indications

• Schizophrenia in patients unresponsive to, or intolerant of, conventional antipsychotic drugs.
• Psychosis in Parkinson's disease.

Pharmacology

• Atypical antipsychotic drug
• Binds to dopamine receptors
• Antagonist at adrenergic, cholinergic, histaminergic, and serotonergic receptors
• Preferentially active at limbic dopamine receptors

Dosage & Administration

• Daily dosage for schizophrenia and psychosis in Parkinson's disease
• Incremental dosage for gradual increase
• Dosage for adult and elderly patients

Interaction

• Interaction with myelosuppressants
• Interaction with CNS active drugs and alcohol
• Protein binding interactions
• Effect on plasma levels with other drugs

Contraindications

• Severe cardiac disorders
• Renal impairment
• History of neutropenia or agranulocytosis
• Alcohol and toxic psychoses

Side Effects

• Common side effects like constipation, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, nausea, and vomiting
• Less common side effects like abdominal discomfort and heartburn

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Limited studies in pregnant women
• Potential secretion in breast milk

Precautions & Warnings

• Tapering off medication over 1-2 weeks
• Risk of agranulocytosis and cardiovascular effects
• Weekly monitoring of WBC counts
• Risk of cognitive and motor impairment
• Potential for fever and severe febrile reactions
• Anticholinergic effects
• Risk of hyperglycemia and hepatic effects
• Potential for orthostatic hypotension and tachycardia
• Association with myocarditis, pericarditis, and cardiomyopathy
• Rare cases of thromboembolism

Overdose Effects

• Altered states of consciousness
