Description
- Dopamine antagonist medication for the treatment of nausea and vomiting.
- Pharmacological actions include blocking dopamine receptors in the Chemoreceptor Trigger Zone (CTZ) and stomach, restoring normal motility and tone of the upper gastrointestinal tract, facilitating gastric emptying, and enhancing antral and duodenal peristalsis.
Dosage & Administration
- Adults: 10-20 mg (1-2 tablets or 10-20 ml suspension), every 6-8 hours daily
- Maximum dose: 80 mg daily
- Children: Dosage based on body weight and specific conditions
Interaction
- Concomitant administration of anticholinergic drugs may antagonize the antidyspeptic effect of domperidone
- Avoid simultaneous use with antacids and antisecretory drugs
- Metabolized through CYP3A4 pathway
- May influence the absorption of concomitantly orally administered drugs
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the drug
- Neonates
- Gastrointestinal hemorrhage, mechanical obstruction, or perforation
